Millions of students are participating in online learning, and the rate is quickly accelerating as more schools “blend” online learning into brick-and-mortar classrooms. The pattern of disruptive innovation is clearly at work. Just as disruptive innovations have transformed countless other industries, education is undergoing a revolutionary shift. New classroom models like Flex, Flipped Classroom, and Individual Rotation are changing the way teachers teach and students learn. They are increasing access, redefining success, and accelerating a more modular, customized system. Some of the new models are on a trajectory to eventually replace the traditional classroom architecture. Education leaders and teachers face a world of new possibilities as they help to shape and channel the innovation of blended learning to its highest potential.
